Many cities all over the world boast excellent haunted attractions, haunted house tours, and spooky theme parks, which make perfect venues for fun gothic and halloween weddings. If your idea of a perfect wedding is a great party surrounded by friends, family and axe murderers, a wedding at a haunted house could be just what you want.
When we decided to hold our wedding at Spookers - an ex-mental asylum turned haunted attraction in Auckland, New Zealand - the staff bent over backwards to make our wedding a success. Ours was the first wedding held at Spookers, so they really wanted to deliver a fantastic show. Even though we married on Halloween weekend, their biggest night of the year, everything went off without any problems and all the guests had a terrifying time!
Like Spookers, many haunted attractions offer catering facilities/private functions. And, since haunted attractions aren't set up specifically to make money from wedding couples, they're normally cheaper to hire then regular wedding venues.
And you sure can't beat the atmosphere. You don't need to decorate, because every corner contains a spooky display for awesome photo opportunities. And with ghouls and ghosts popping out from the most unexpected places, your guests are definitely going to be entertained!
One thing to be aware of: most haunted houses won't close for the public on your wedding day, especially if you're getting married near halloween, so while you can have a separate reception area to yourselves, you share the rest of the venue with the eager public.
Also, screams and shouts from the attractions might distract during your ceremony, so think carefully about the time and location. If you want privacy, you might look into a weeknight wedding, hold your ceremony earlier in the day (before the public arrives) or move the ceremony to another venue.
